Midlands Airport is situated geographically between Derby, Nottingham and
Leicester, with Loughborough 4nm southeast partly under the CTR.
The M1 motorway transits the CTR north to south
We have a 2893m east/west runway, both ends linked by a parallel
taxiway with various entry/exit points. Both
ends are served by an ILS, (Cat3 ILS available on 27 only).
The surveillance radar is a Marconi 511 primary radar, sited on the north
side of the airfield supported by SSR normally provided from the CAA radar site
at Claxby on the Lincolnshire wolds.
A
wide variety of commercial traffic is handled at East Midlands such as
scheduled, charter, business and cargo flights along with a busy flying school,
an air ambulance helicopter and a small amount of privately owned
aircraft.
